Spring Breeze

Walking in the summer feeling of Sunday's warm evening the setting sun lit this caught pollen from the windy days before.

A night to remember

Yesterday I was delighted about a compliment I received. A woman, painter herself, said to me that she likes this painting because it's so lively and encouraged me to do more in this style.

Hannover Fleamarket

I've been on the world famous Fleamarket in Hannover today. On the 'Art Bank' there is a wonderful atmosphere. And you could hardly find a nicer backdrop to your paintings, don't you think?

I'll be there again next Saturday, 11:00am - 3:30pm.

out in the deep blue sea

This is another of Erwin W Friese's Lighthouses. Unfortunately I don't know where this one is found. Somewhere out in the deep blue sea...

This painting is promised to my husband for his birthday :)

Pilsum II

I am painting the Pilsum Lighthouse as a birthday present for a dear neighbour. (his birthday's next week and I'm hoping he doesn't pop by here...) At the moment I'm still experimenting with different sizes and perspectives. Here the 20x40 size:

The Lighthouse Series

I have a calendar of bookmarks by Erwin W. Friese with the most wonderful watercolour paintings of lighthouses. They have inspired me to try and paint them, to try and capture the colours and atmosphere. But you must have a look at the originals.

I gave this painting to a temping Angel

Georgengarten

I am now painting by nature as well - if it's a landscape, as they don't move so fast... Just the sun, meaning light and shadows wander. This is painted in the 'Georgengarten' in Hannover.

I gave this painting to my dad for his birthday yesterday. :o)

Eeore

This is a new go at Acrylic - I like donkeys almost as much as sheep :o)
My husband gave me a calendar with donkeys last year, with many wonderful motives.

Lindenbluete

You can admire one of my paintings in the Hannover shop "Lindenbluete". You find the 'Lime tree blossom' in the suburb of Linden (lime trees), on Limmerstr. 83.

"Land under"

Another painting I did on the tidal island Hooge. 4 days after "land under", high tide where only the dwelling mounds with the houses on stick out of the water, you can still see remains stuck to the paddock fences.

Masterpiece

This is currently my best painting, my masterpiece. These two sheep are on a paddock on Hallig Hooge. I photographed them at the beginning of the year and watercoloured, by now they're framed and - frankly - I don't even wanna give them away, not even for money. :o)
And I haven't painted anything better yet.

Happy Mother's Day

I will see my own mum today when I take her out for lunch.* For my Australian mother-in-law I have here a picture with an Australian theme...

my favourite harbour :)

Do you know those fabric patches? One of those - by an unknown artist - off my travelling backpack was the inspiration for this picture of Port Jackson - the world's largest natural harbour.

*no, it's not mother's day in either Germany or Australia, this is my last day of catching up with the translation

Full Moon

This is a picture from the 'Eichenpark' in Langenhagen in the night of the 'biggest full moon' in March. It was 'blue hour' - dusk, and the trees just days away from germination.

Lighthouse

This Watercolour is a free adaption of a photograph my husband took on a cycling tour. The Lighthouse is on the coast of the Netherlands.

Still

As I've been still the last couple of days, a Still Life for today - ha! Generally I don't get a kick out of still lives, unless they're outside ones - landscapes ;) or 'cooking' fruit and veg artistically, that's fascinated me for a while. But they're good for practice and sometimes you do find some interesting motives. This is a practice one from the aforementioned watercolour course.

At the moment I am looking for new ways to learn more.

Salt Technique I

I have realised that my pool of paintings will soon be exhausted and that I will have to work hard once that occurs, to upload one painting every day...

This painting is just fitting into the season again - we've just had the "Eisheiligen", a european weather pattern ("The Ice Saints"), which is derived from farmers' weather observations in the late medieval times, noticing a few days of frost in May and then a sudden switch to warmer temperatures again. In the calendar the Ice Saints finish on Saint Sophie's Day (15th May), also called the "Cold Sophie" - but the weather pattern, which is of course not metereologically confirmed, can occur later or - like this May - earlier.

Snow Moon

Here I tried the 'salt technique' for the first time. When you place salt on a painting that is just in the right wetness state - not still too wet, not yet too dry - it will draw the water and form crystals which can look like snow flakes. A rather tricky process, as I realised.

Layering Technique exercise

This brent goose is also from my watercolour course.

Wash-out Technique exercise

April is nearly over* and I'm going to be away for 2 days until Sunday. So I'm uploading 2 paintings today. First a city scene from my watercolour course, taught by Wilma Jensen in February.

*still behind with the translations, but catching up ;)

Quackers

I painted this picture spontaneously in December in Brisbane. We were visiting a friend, who lives beside a lake. There also lives 'Quackers', a pretty tame Indian Runner duck.

This painting was a birthday present for Quackers' "human"
Back then I was still struggling with shadow. But Quackers himself turned out really well.

Island Still Life

I want to present a painting in a different technique today. For a short while I've been dabbling in acrylic paint (and putty *g*) on canvas. In my art therapy I used special art putty, but this time I tried just basic plaster.

Painted from a photograph I took on tidal island Hooge at the start of the year.

Almost a summer's day...

... it was today, again. Was being quite roasted in Cafe 'Strandleben' by the Ihme. Godly.

A view of a slightly different river from our trip to Laos last October:

Happy Easter!

(I know Easter has passed. I beg you to excuse this discrepancy, it took me this long to catch up with the English translations...)

Yesterday I haven't uploaded a painting, because I was sick, bed bound and didn't manage to do anything - but today I feel a bit better already. So, to celebrate: an Easter bunny!

Bunny went to my friend Claudia for her birthday

Greeting Cards

My greeting cards are all original watercolour paintings. Here are 2 examples of motives:

red & white

Where is everybody?

Drawing with watercolouring

I am trying out different styles at the moment. Here I copied an illustration by Quentin Blake from the book - you guessed it - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory:

Spring

A painting which just sums up this season for me. At the moment I feel I can't paint the trees fast enough before they have changed again. So, a timeless motive.

Thailand

It's time for a little photography again. I don't photograph as much at the moment. But there is my big collection in storage...
Impressions from Thailand and Laos:

... gone!

Painting No 4 went on the Easter Bazar organised by Haende fuer Pfoten. It is a result of my first 'proper' painting course!

... going, going...

The third painting was bought at the Arts & Crafts Market in the CCL Langenhagen by a very nice lady. I painted it at the beginning of the year on the tidal island 'Hooge'.

January Sun

...sold

I sold my second painting in December. Here I was inspired by a photo from an artist I found on the net, looking for snow.Cause on the streets of Mae Sot there was none to be found...

Sold!

Watercolours in this category are not available any more. For instance my very first painting I ever made money with:

Pakbeng harbour, Laos

My first ever painting was sold in a charity auction I organised in November 2010. It made 170€. The money went to the organisation I was volunteering for at the time: Institute for Academic and Practical Studies (IAPS), an educational project supporting Burmese refugees in Thailand.
