copy cat

My cat enjoys the last few sunny days this year - and her shadow follows her like a massive two-dimensional black&white copy. A great image for a pencil sketch!

Love love love

Today is my wedding anniversary. And it isn't. We split up this year. Sometimes love gets punctured. It stays perceptible though. Even withered and injured something is left that looks beautiful in some way.

quicker

The second portrait I drew quite fast and sketchy. If I do this, it often leads to a fresher, more spontaneous and lively line.

Portraits

I recently tried portrait drawing again and was very pleased that my lack of practice in the last six months didn't mean that I had completely lost my touch. Or my enthusiasm!
I'm off to a different life drawing course tonight to try it out, with a new friend from my watercolour class.

Jazz and Art

I was at the "Bothfelder Jazzfestival & arts and crafts market" on Sunday. It was a beautiful sunny autumn day with lots of interested people and really chilled music.
My new autumn photography postcards were the best received, just in time for the season.

"Lipstick"

"The final Two"

"Fridolin"

and

"Heavenly Drops"

Pencil

This drawing from a magazine seemed to be finished half-way through, and I really liked the effect. Less is sometimes more!

Charcoal

I just emptied another box and found some portrait drawings from the beginning of the year, which I haven't shown here yet.
Starting with a charcoal drawing:

Tentatively...

... I'm taking my brushes back up.
I am living on my own since May, except for my magic feline beings. I am a good way into redeveloping the house. I needed time to do nothing. Just be.

Yesterday I painted a lighthouse in fog. I found it fitting. This glowing signpost is shining bravely through the thick mist. So the picture is steeped in hope.

donkeys

I have a thing about donkeys. I think since I was about three and had the book 'My donkey Benjamin' read to me. I delightedly rediscovered it this year in a bookshop.
I gave this donkey painting to a woman who's also got a thing about donkeys as a wedding present:

spring feelings

... are abundant in this great weather, especially in my garden.

Variations

I have done my signature motive in monochrome also or - how it is called in photography - "sepia".
Sepia really is black ink though, not brown...

Bridging

... that's what I often feel like lately. Unfortunately I don't always manage to build bridges. Sometimes it seems to short - or just hang in mid-air, without any connection.

Molly

This is my cat Molly, painted from one of my photographs. Of course Molly doesn't keep still long enough for me to capture her like this. Only while she is asleep I could achieve that.

Cats

I have painted to excess in my watercolour course in March. I experimented with liquid frisket for the first time - I heard about loads about it, but had never indulged before. And I leant to whittle my own ink nibs from bamboo.
Here a cat's eye...

Start of Spring, Start Afresh

Whilst my 'House Break', the Renovating and Gardening are still going on, I finished my training as a Systemic Family Counsellor. And got back into painting! I am going to start feeding the things I have drawn and painted in the meantime to this blog now.
During the last months I have discovered Acrylics more and more. On the last weekend, however, I've been able to dabble in Watercolours again. Today I am showing a cat motive from those dabblings.
